FitOn App Overview
Where to start with FitOn? It’s an all-round complete workout app, with a huge array of quality workout content and supporting features. In fact there is so much packed into the app that its initially a bit confusing to find your way around!
FitOn uses an impressive lineup of celebrity trainers, including film stars like Gabrielle Union, which lends the app a star-studded quality. This should not distract from the actual workout quality, which is truly top notch. There are hundreds workout videos available, across a diverse range of categories such as HIIT, cardio, strength training, yoga, and even more unconventional options like self-defense and pre and post-natal workouts. Regardless of your fitness preferences or fitness levels, FitOn offers something for everyone.
The workout app also checks all the boxes when it comes to supporting feautres. From achievement badges and progress tracking to a comprehensive nutrition section boasting over 500 recipes and daily meal planners, FitOn has it all.
Most importantly, there is a thriving community of other fitness users in the app. This is facilitated by a bunch of social features such as community forum boards and direct messaging between users. Users who find their fitness motivation in sharing the journey with others will love FitOn.
Despite its many strengths, FitOn does have a few areas for improvement. The abundance of features can sometimes make the user experience slightly confusing, as some aspects feel like they were added as an afterthought rather than seamlessly integrated. However, these minor drawbacks don’t overshadow the app’s overall quality and functionality.
One notable advantage of FitOn is its incredible value. All workout content is entirely free to use, making it accessible to fitness enthusiasts of all budgets. Some of the additional features (such as training plans, the nutrition section, and ability to download workout videos for use offline) are locked and require a pro account to use, costing $24.99 for a six-month subscription. This is amazing value when comparing to other premium workout apps, where you can sometimes pay the same amount for a single month.

FitOn greets you with a huge onboarding quiz upon signing up. This covers everything including your current fitness levels, workout goals, and dietary requirements.
This onboarding quiz definitely feels too much, and delays you getting to even explore the app. However the information collected powers much of the content within FitOn, including influencing workout suggestions and nutrition recommendations, giving you a more personal experience.
FitOn truly excels in the realm of workout content, offering a vast library of high-quality videos accompanied by engaging backing music and instructive narration from the trainers. The workouts are in the continuous video format so there isn’t any customization available in the routines. However, you do have the option to skip forward through exercises if needed.
Any type of user will find a suitable workout in FitOn, including beginners to those seeking more intense workouts. The app covers every workout category imaginable, including HIIT, cardio, strength training, yoga, routines involving your kids, pre and post-natal exercises, dance workouts, and even self-defence sessions. With durations and intensities spanning from quick and easy 5-minute sessions to intense hour-long workouts, FitOn accommodates users of all fitness levels.
Finding the perfect workout is a breeze with FitOn’s user-friendly interface. You can easily filter workouts by duration, intensity, target body area, workout type, or trainer, allowing you to customize your workout to meet your specific preferences and goals.
Additionally, with the Pro version, you have the convenience of downloading workout videos for offline use, ensuring that you can stay active even without an internet connection. The ability to mark favorite workouts also simplifies access to your preferred routines, enabling you to easily find and revisit them whenever you desire.
FitOn is built around social workouts, and offers a fully featured community section in the app. This allows you to easily connect with like-minded individuals on your fitness journey.
You can add your own friends, engage in chat features, and even participate in community forums centered around various subjects health and nutrition topics ( intermittent fasting, newbies to fitness, and vegetarians being a few examples).
This robust community environment provides an excellent platform for seeking advice, sharing experiences, and receiving the encouragement you need to stay motivated and committed to your fitness goals.
FitOn’s nutrition section is a standout feature, offering an extensive collection of over 500 healthy recipes. These recipes cater to various dietary preferences, including vegan, gluten-free, and high-protein options. Unlike other apps that often provide only a handful of recipes readily available on the internet, FitOn goes above and beyond, ensuring a diverse and abundant selection to choose from.
Additionally, FitOn provides a daily meal plan feature, offering a structured approach to your nutrition. These meals are based on the onboarding quiz completed at sign up. Unfortunately the meal plans are not really configurable, and you cannot swap out meals based on ingredient availability or taste.
Training Programs and Courses
The training programs section consist of around 50 programs grouped around themes like Getting Lean, Getting Strong, or Getting Toned. These programs essentially package existing workouts from the app and assign them a specific duration, such as a 4-week plan, providing a structured approach to your fitness goals.
In addition to training programs, FitOn also offers courses that provide premium content from expert coaches. These courses delve deeper into specific topics, such as basic nutrition or improving sleep, offering valuable insights and guidance. However, it’s important to note that enrolling in these courses requires additional payment beyond the app’s standard features.
This part of FitOn is slightly under par compared to the rest of their offering. There is no customization or personalization to the training plans, and the overlap between the training programs and courses is a bit confusing.
FitOn includes a basic framework for taking part in workout challenges, but its functionality is rather limited. These challenges involve completing a predetermined number of workouts within a specific time frame. While they provide a structured goal to work towards, the lack of configurability makes them less impactful and engaging for users who are motivated by competition.
Interestingly, FitOn allows users to create their own challenges and invite friends to participate. However, just as above, the customization options for these user-generated challenges are limited, reducing the overall engagement and enjoyment of the feature.
Progress Tracking and Rewards
During our FitOn app review we found a bunch of progress tracking and reward features. We really liked the achievement badges, which are awarded for various accomplishments such as workout streaks, completing a certain number of workouts, or working out in the morning or evening. Everyone loves getting a reward for dedication and hard work!
Another feature we love is taking photos of your body transformation. Most people are working out to create changes in how they look, so seeing this in the app is great for motivation and encouragement.
The app also enables you to track a few key metrics, such as recording your weight to monitor progress towards your target weight. If you connect your smartwatch, you can even track the number of steps taken throughout the day, providing additional insights into your overall activity level.
In addition to the above, FitOn offers some basic graphs and statistics to showcase your exercise progress and display how frequently you’ve worked out each week.
All in all, the progress tracking in FitOn is OK, but may be considered too simple for individuals who’s main motivation is setting and smashing challenging targets.
There is a bunch of additional features and extras all designed to enhance your workout experience. Some notable examples being workout reminders and the ability to log workouts taken outside the app to your calendar, allowing you to track all your exercises and even estimate calorie burn.
The FitOn team really have tried to squeeze every helpful workout feature into this app. For the large part, users will find everything they need to help them on their fitness journey. However it sometimes feels like a handful of these extra features could be jettisoned from the app and result in FitOn being a leaner and more helpful user experience.
