Overview
The Down Dog Yoga App has been around for several years now, and due to its simplicity and ease of use, it is one of our favourite home workout apps.
Rather then browse a catalouge containing hundreds of workouts, you simply select from several configuration options, and the app will generate a custom yoga routine for you. This essentially means there are thousands of different workout variations available, so you will get a unique workout every day.
This routine generation feature also means you don’t have to spend time planning your workouts, as the app does all the thinking for you. This makes Down Dog Yoga a great app for beginners.
Workouts aside, there are few other supporting features that you can find in competing Yoga apps. There is limited progress tracking, and no social or community features. This app is really all about the Yoga.
You must have a paid subscription to use Down Dog Yoga app, which comes in at $9.99 per month. As a bonus this subscription gives you access to all the other fitness apps in the Down Dog family, such as HIIT workouts, prenatal yoga, and a meditation app.
A 22 day free trial means you can try out this fantastic beginner friendly app before committing to the subscription.

Workout Review
To kick off any workout in Down Dog you need to generate the routine by selecting the following options.
- Yoga style (Hatha, Yin, Cardio Flow, Ashtanga and many more)
- Experience level
- Body focus area
- Duration
- Voice and music options
- Routine duration (5 to 75 minutes)
Once these are set the app will generate your workout and you are good to go.
The workout videos themselves are simply produced with the same instructor demonstrating all the poses for you.
If you particularly liked one of the yoga routines generated by the app, you can save it for later, and even give it a custom name to help you remember it.
Progress Tracking and Achievements
Down Dog has little to offer in regards to progress tracking and achievement rewards.
On the journey tab you can specify a target for how many times per week you want to workout. This is displayed alongside a statistic of your choosing, where you can select from options such as total practice time, how many practices per month you achieved, or your current daily workout streak.
Whats Missing?
Apart from the lack of progress tracking and reward features we noted above, there is no social or community integration here. If you are motivated by the social benefits of working out then this might not be a good option for you.
