Overview
HIIT (high intensity interval training) and strength workouts are the theme in Freeletics. The app is clearly aimed at hardcore gym goers and fitness enthusiasts, where most of the workouts are very intense and the branding is aggressive. Images of ripped men working out can be found everywhere throughout the app!
There is a fantastic set of features in Freeletics, mostly based around progress tracing and competition. There are points leader boards, achievement badges for workout streaks, and graphs showing your recent times for completing HIIT workouts. On top of this is a built in social feed, allowing you to share all your gruelling workouts with your friends.
Nike Training Club is another fitness app packed full of great quality workout videos. There are over 500 workouts videos covering various styles, including HIIT, strength training, and yoga workouts.
As you would expect in an app made by Nike, the design is extremely slick and the workout content is top quality. Similar to Freeletics, there is a whole range of supporting features such as reward badges for completing streaks, healthy eating guides and recipes, and a built in social feed so you can follow and comment on other user’s workouts.
Apart from the style of content and branding, the big different between the apps is price. Nike Training Club is completely free, which is hard to believe considering the high quality of the app. Freeletics requires a paid quarterly subscription of $34.99 to unlock all the content and features, although it is possible to use some of the workout videos on the free plan.
Which is better? Freeletics or Nike Training Club?
Price is the main difference here. If you are budget conscious then the obvious choice is Nike Training Club. Despite being completely free, the app has as many features as other premium workout apps that require a subscription to use.
Beginners may also favour Nike Training Club, as there is a greater choice of beginner friendly workouts than can be found in Freeletics.
If you are already quite fit and are seeking a challenge to up the intensity of your workouts, Freeletics is the choice for you. The progress tracking and rewards features are unrivalled. If you get your workout motivation from competing you will want to try this app.
