Overview

In a nutshell, Fitbod is an app with some fancy computer algorithms that generate fully customized workout routines based on your goals and previous workout data. The workouts are based around strength training, and will really benefit someone with access to a gym.

The app is super flexible with loads of settings which lets you generate the exact workout to meet your fitness goals. Its also very easy to change the generated workouts, by swapping out specific exercises, updating sets or rep counts, or even ditching the whole workout and getting Fitbod to generate a new one for you.

Freeletics is a more conventional workout app, where you pick a workout from an existing catalogue of fitness videos. The workouts are all based on strength training and HIIT (high intensity interval training), and the branding and design is very aggressive. This app is clearly targeted at hardcore fitness enthusiasts.

The best thing about Freeletics is the amazing supporting features focused on rewards and competition. There are point leader boards and fitness challenges to compete in, timed workouts to complete, and rewards badges for achieving streaks and beating previous workouts. On top of this is a built in social feed, letting you boast about your achievements to your mates.

Regarding price, Fitbod requires a monthly subscription to use, currently set at $12.99. It is possible to use Freeletics without a subscription, with a range of workouts unlocked on the free plan. Users who want to upgrade and unlock all the content and features will have to subscribe to a minimum 3 month commitment at $34.99.

Which is better? Fitbod or Freeletics?

To get the most out of either app will require a paid subscription at a very similar monthly cost, so there is little difference between the two regarding price.

For users with little prior fitness experience, the workouts in Freeletics will likely be too intense. On the other hand the demo videos and detailed instructions describing how to perform each exercise in Fitbod are fantastic for beginners who need a little guidance.

If you are a competition freak, motivated by achievement and measuring your progress, then the competition and reward features in Freeletics are second to none.

On the other hand if you are looking for an app to help you design a more traditional strength workout plan for the gym, Fitbod is the ideal choice.
