Centr vs Freeletics

Updated May 9, 2023 by Jim

Centr and Freeletics are two fitness apps with very similar styles of workout routine. However there are some key differences between the apps, especially in regards to features. Read on to discover more or click here to skip to the Centr vs Freeletics feature comparison.

Centr is an all round workout and nutrition app, created by Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth and his fitness team. The workouts in the app are mostly based on strength exercises and HIIT routines, with a mixture of self-guided and instructor led videos.

Centr also has a huge nutrition section with hundreds of healthy recipes included. The app gives you a recommended workout and a full meal plan every day, which is great for someone looking for an option to cater to all their fitness and nutrition planning.

Similarly the workouts in Freeletics are based on strength and HIIT routines. The branding and style is a little more aggressive in Freeletics, which would appeal more to hardcore athletes and gym rats.

Where Freeletics differs from Centr is the focus on progress tracking and achievement features, and the inclusion of a social feed. With the social feed you can follow other users, and comment on their workouts. The progress tracking features include points leader boards, achievement badges for workout streaks, and graphs showing you improvement in timed HIIT workouts.

The quantity and quality of the workout videos in both apps are fantastic, with a huge selection and variety of routines available in each.

Which is better? Centr or Freeletics?

If you are motivated by competition and look forward to intense, punishing HIIT workouts, then nothing beats Freeletics. The leaderboards, achievement badges and challenges will give you everything you need to help you push through your limits.

On the other hand if you want to experience what it would be like to have your own personal trainer and nutritionist on hand, Centr is the app for you. You can save hours of research and planning by using the daily meal planner and recommended workouts that the app creates.

Centr is arguably a better choice for those starting off from a lower fitness standard. There are more beginner level workout routines in Centr, and all exercises come with detailed tutorial videos to help you hit the correct form.

In regards to price, Freeletics is slightly more affordable than Centr. It is possible to use some of the Freeletics workouts for free, however to unlock all the content you need to subscribe to a quarterly subscription of $34.99. Centr is not free and requires you to pay a monthly subscription of $29.99 immediately after a 7 day free trial (for comparison the quarterly Centr package is $59.99, $25 more than Freeletics).
